The optimal strategy:

1. Start with your first-choice race.
2. Reach level 50 using the leveling route.
3. If your race does not feel right, reroll once at level 50.
4. After the second attempt, commit. Race bonuses do not change based on the meta, so a re-roll after Patch 5.5 will give the same result.

Common Race Mistakes

• Picking Human by default. Human is safe but never the strongest in the current meta.
• Picking Fishman for a non-water build. The Fishman bonus is wasted if you are not running Fishman Karate or Fishman Jujutsu.
• Picking Skypiean for a non-sword build. The Skypiean bonus only applies to Sword Saint.
• Rerolling more than twice. The 5,000-gem cost adds up fast.

Race Lore

The five races in Re:AOPG are drawn from the canonical One Piece universe. Human is the default race, Fishman is the underwater race from Fishman Island, Mink is the furred race from Zou, Skypiean is the winged race from Skypiea, and Cyborg is the mechanical race from the Franky family. The race you pick does not change the story, but it does affect your dialogue options in some side quests.
